Richmond’s Fall Flavors

Leaves are starting to change their color and the crisp smell of fall has filled the air, which here at Shafer Bird means pumpkin spice and apple cinnamon flavored goodies.  Here is a compiled list of the fall treats local Richmond restaurants have to offer, to warm you up in time for sweater weather.

Proper Pie Co.– Proper Pie Co., a New Zealand style pie shop with both savory and sweet pies located in Church Hill, makes the top of our list.  This fall season, they are currently serving a Pumpkin Pie with salted caramel, and their year round Dutch Apple Pie.  Later in the autumn season, Proper Pie will serve a Sweet Potato Pie.

King of Pops– The rulers of sweets on a stick have offered up Pumpkin Spice Latte, Apple Pie and Apple Cider to their list of flavors they are selling this season. You can usually find their cart on campus near the Student Commons or Cabell Library.

Carytown Cupcakes– Carytown Cupcakes will be serving up two fall flavors continuously throughout the season.  The first addition to their cupcake selection is a vegan Pumpkin Chocolate Chip cupcake with Cinnamon Butter Cream frosting.  They will also be serving a gluten free Caramel Apple cupcake for the fall fruit lovers.

Gelati Celesti Ice Cream– This home of hand-made creamery is serving ice cream’s cool Italian cousin, gelato, in delicious limited-time fall flavors such as Pumpkin Ginger Snap and Cinnamon Apple Fritter.

Can Can Brasserie– The French restaurant on West Cary Street will start catering more fall themed items on their menu this season.  Currently they are serving a Pumpkin Tart with their dinner menu, and entrées are being paired with more seasonal veggies like squash. Brunch is serving a Pumpkin Pancake, and they say they’ll be rotating more and different fall items throughout the season.

For the Love of Chocolate-Located in the shopping center next to Can Can Brasserie in Carytown is For the Love of Chocolate, well stocked in cocoa and chocolate from all over the world.  This fall they will be offering a wide variety of seasonal candies, such as pumpkin flavored chocolate and pumpkin spice truffles.  They also have fall themed shaped candy like peanut butter leaves and jack-o-lanterns.  For the candy corn enthusiasts, For the Love of Chocolate has candy corn in multiple flavors including s’mores and candy apples.  This candy store also sells candy apples with many different toppings.

Sugar Shack-We couldn’t leave out our champion donut shop in our fall favorite list.  This season, Sugar Shack Donuts will serve a Pumpkin Spice Cake donut as well as a Pumpkin Pie donut.

Bev’s Homemade Ice Cream-The weather may be colder, but ice cream is never out of season.  Starting on October 1st through the rest of the month, Bev’s Homemade Ice Cream in Carytown across from the Byrd Theater will serve a special pumpkin flavored ice cream.
