How to Travel the World with Food: Fall Edition
Yesterday was World Food Day! A day that celebrates the founding of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. This holiday, like many, allows you to indulge and experience foods from all over the world if you’d like. From savoury soups and pastas to sweet cakes or cookies, you can try it all! Though if you’re anything like me, deciding on what to eat is a huge task. There are so many different foods out there, it’s no wonder I have a hard time deciding what to eat. In the spirit of the fall season, convenience, and in honor of World Food Day, I will sharing my favorite fall foods inspired from places around the world. This way, you’ll have plenty of different foods to try out that are all delicious!
1) South Korean Blue Crab aka Ganjang-gejang
We are kicking it off in South Korea with soy sauce marinated crab that’s sure to keep you warm and full. Blue crab is sweet and soft in texture and mixing it with something slightly tart and salty, like soy sauce, along with some red pepper paste or gochujang gives the dish a extraordinary flavor that you are sure to love!
2) Spain Ox Tail Stew aka Rabo De Toro
Nothing says fall like a stew! This hearty stew is marinated in a base of red wine and black pepper along with veggies galore until the meat just falls apart. This dish is filling and warm, best paired with potatoes, boiled or fried for those cold fall nights.
3) Great Britain Toffee Apples
Apples and fall are a match made in heaven. The tart fruit is in many autumnal dishes such as pies and cobblers and even salads but this way by far takes the cake. These crisp sweet delights paired with a sticky toffee are sure to make any fall day that much sweeter.
4) China Rice Dumplings aka Yuanxiao
These little babies are eaten during the autumn tradition known as the lantern festival in China. They’re made with rice flour to make them chewy and soft in texture and there fillings can consist of many things including red bean, a sweet and sugary paste, brown sugar, or various mixes of fruits and nuts. These traditional dumplings are steamy and delicious! I highly recommend to those with a sweet tooth like me!
5) Bolivia Purple Corn Drink aka Api Morado
This sweet Bolivian drink screams fall with its mix of spices and fragrant fruits. Pineapple, purple corn, cinnamon, cloves, and orange rind come together to create a warm and thick drink, commonly served alongside a pastry of your choosing. The sweet and filling beverage warms you from the inside out, perfect for those chilly fall mornings.
